These young men are heroes.
Two teenagers have been credited with possibly saving a woman's life. Aaron Arias, 19, and Jamal Harris, 17, are best friends from Seagoville, Texas, an area just outside of Dallas. The two friends were driving through Kaufman, Texas when they noticed the car beside them had an attractive woman in the backseat. As soon as they pulled up to the car that she was traveling in, they knew something was off about the situation. From the back seat, the woman appeared to be mouthing the words "Help Me" to the boys. Aaron immediately picked up his phone and called 9-1-1 to alert the police to what was happening.
“I’m on the highway. I’m witnessing a robbery. Not a robbery, a kidnapping.” said Aaron in his call to 9-1-1. He explained that they were checking out the "girl in the backseat" because she was attractive and they realized that she was saying help me, and whispering it. As it turns out, the 25-year-old woman was at an office party in Downtown Dallas when 37-year-old Charles Atkins Lewis put a gun to her and kidnapping her as he forced her into the back seat of his car and drove off. Thanks to the two teenagers, police were led straight to the woman and her abductor. Listen to the 9-1-1 call.
Lewis was charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping. Aaron and Jamal are big superhero fans and love to play video games, and they never imagined they would be in a situation like this. When they heard that the woman was uninjured, they were overjoyed, and now they're being called heroes, and rightly so. There's no way to imagine how this story could have ended up if these two young men weren't quick thinkers and decided to take action when they knew something was wrong.
The woman hugged the two boys and Arias said "I can honestly say those were the best hugs I've ever gotten!" Watch the video of the arrest below.
